Linux for Windows Users

Our New Linux Class: Linux for Windows UsersLinuxCourse

Meets Thursday Mornings
10 am — Noon
July 24, 31, and August 7, 14

Free, but if this class is helpful please donate $20 to TBCS

What you need to bring to each class:

a laptop with 20Gb free space to install Linux OR
an empty 16Gb (or larger) USB2 Flash Drive

Class Plans:

Week 1: Linux background, history and hard drive partitioning.
Download a Linux ISO file using FTP or Torrent. Everyone burns an ISO file to LiveDVD / USB drive. Install LXLE on their laptop or USB device, then apply distribution updates.

Week 2: Complete LXLE installs and begin completing a worksheet adding and removing Linux applications using the SoftwareCenter, Synaptic, sudo in a terminal and PPA additions.

Week 3: Complete worksheet from above. This should allow you to feel comfortable with Linux. Locate among 41,521 open source applications which free tools can replace your former Windows programs (remember to bring your list).

Week 4: Customize LXLE to your preferences, GRUB2 bootloader, WINE, virtualization, and other class requests.

(Note: I can loan two people a netbook laptop for this class.)
