A
big thank you to Dave Fredricks, Paul Hoven, Howard Gray, Bill DeLucia (no Linux user but pitched in to help) and Beverley Easterling (who is now a Linux printing pro) for converting ten legacy laptops from WindowsXP to Peppermint Linux last month for Handicapable, a local ministry to challenged adults. Doc helped show our helpful TBCS face to the wider community. My thanks to you all!
Our next Linux SIG meets Monday, January 18 at 7:00 pm. This month is something special and not exclusively Linux as together we attempt to learn more about Zoom communications and how Zoom might be used here at TBCS to include members who cannot come to monthly meetings.
Zoom is a huge improvement over Skype and Adobe Connect that has been adopted by APCUG our parent group for their internal and virtual communications. John Kennedy, my Zoom mentor from APCUG, may join us live from afar at this January meeting.I cannot pull this Zoom demo off myself so I’ll need your support. If possible bring your laptop, tablet or smartphone to use in our demo (Windows, Mac, Linux, Android – sorry no Chromebook solution yet). See more at http://zoom.us
Tonight’s Zoom connect link is: https://zoom.us/j/309178543
Chromebook sales have mushroomed in 2015. We’re beginning a Chromebook Class to meet four consecutive Thursday mornings (1/21, 1/28, 2/4 & 2/11) from 10:00am to Noon. The cost of this class is $20 and classsize is limited to 8 students. To register please email Lynne.
Hopefully we will find time at our SIG meeting to look at these timely Linux links:
